MotoGP legend handed sensational Ferrari F1 test – On This Day
Twenty-two years ago today, Valentino Rossi fulfilled a lifelong dream by testing Ferrari’s F2004 for the first time at Fiorano.
Fresh from winning the opening round of the 2004 season on his Yamaha, Rossi impressed by lapping only 0.7 seconds slower than Michael Schumacher’s benchmark.
Reports varied on Rossi’s performance, with some suggesting a closer gap to three seconds, but regardless, Ferrari was impressed.
Rossi, acknowledging Schumacher’s influence, even wore one of his spare helmets during the test.
Both Rossi and Schumacher expressed mutual admiration for each other’s talents, with Rossi calling the experience “amazing.”
This test led to further F1 outings for Rossi with Ferrari, sparking rumors of a potential switch in 2006.
Ultimately, Rossi opted to stick with MotoGP, but the day remains a highlight in his illustrious career.
